Tip Of The Day

If performing original music and asked to sign a release form, look for a clause suggesting you waive any Collective Bargaining Agreement. That’s a Red Flag. Don’t sign it! Also, as noted by Alan Willaert, while during a  recording session or licensing negotiation you are asked to waive ‘secondary payments for new use’, absolutely DON’T sign it!! The negotiator may describe a situation as nothing more than an unmentioned broadcast when in effect you have given your material to everyone OTHER than those listed in your contract. Should this occur you are dealing with bad blood. Terminate the negotiation immediately!
